A devastating earthquake of 8.0-magnitude hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of P. R. China on May 12, 2008 causing heavy casualties and property losses. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council launched the emergency relief mechanism immediately after the quake. General Secretary Hu Jintao made important instructions to rescue the wounded as soon as possible and to guarantee the safety of the people in the quake zone. Premier Wen Jiabao rushed to the field to command the relief work. The death toll rises to 62,664 and 23,775 are still missing up to May 25.

The May 12 earthquake shocked and hurt the Chinese people at home and abroad.  The Chinese citizens and foreign friends working and living in U.A.E. offered financial assistance generously in order to help those in the quake-struck areas to overcome difficulties. The money donated already amounted to 3 million Dirhams, reflecting the affection that blood is thicker than water and when one place is in trouble, assistance comes from all quarters.

The Embassy of P. R. China proposes that all the Chinese citizens working and living in UAE do their bit to help the people in the quake-hit areas overcome their difficulties either by providing the necessary assistance or making donations. Donors can hand in cash or cheque to the Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai, or send remittance to the bank account of the Embassy and Consulate General. The Embassy will forward the donations in batches as soon as possible to the disaster-hit areas through the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
